Guide to choosing school subjects
The 2018 Subject Guide informs secondary students about subject requirements.
Before you arrive at your first day of class, there are some important things you need to know. We've put together a checklist to help you to be organised for your first week of study.
Apply for Student Loan or Allowance
Organising and planning your funding for your study is extremely important. It is a good idea to contact StudyLink and get this underway as soon as possible.
Finalise your Papers
Now that you have a clearer idea of university life, it's time to finish adding your papers to your online application. Make sure you update your contact details while you're there so we can contact you with any important reminders.
Prepare for Orientation
Get to know your surroundings and meet some great new friends! The University hosts an Academic Orientation Week for all new students the week prior to the start of A and B Semester. This helps you get settled into university life and includes campus and library tours and "how to" workshops. There is also a schedule of fun events and activities run by the Waikato Students' Union.
Visit a Drop-In Session
It's normal to have lots of questions around confirming your enrolment and starting university. It's a good idea to join one of our drop-in sessions to speak to our friendly staff and get any additional information you might need.
Prepare your Timetable
Once your enrolment is confirmed, we will email a copy of your timetable. It's a good idea to print off the timetable and get familiar with the location of your classes, tutorial and labs well ahead of time. Have a clear idea of your daily timetable and keep this on you all the time to avoid missing a class.
Set Up your ID Card
To avoid queues when you arrive on campus, it's a good idea to send in a passport photo (along with your student ID number) to email@example.com, or get one taken at the Student Centre Information Desk for your new student ID card.
Get Ready to Experience Waikato
Start packing and get ready for one of the best experiences of your life. Remember, your Future Student Advisers are here to help you and answer any questions along the way. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact us on 0800 WAIKATO or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
