Eliza grew up on the stage, singing with her parents and five siblings around the country. Being homeschooled all her life, she was able to put particular effort into her musical endeavours, learning both piano and singing.
Eliza started her Bachelor of Music at Vision College in Hamilton, focusing on classical singing while also exploring the musical theatre and contemporary genres under the tuition of Ian Campbell. In 2015 Eliza transferred to the University of Waikato for her Honours year in voice performance studying under Dame Malvina Major as a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar. Eliza is continuing with the Hillary Scholarship Programme in 2016, undertaking an intensive Post-Graduate Certificate in Opera Studies, her 5th year of study.
Eliza has been a student at the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa NZ Opera School three times and in 2016 won the school’s prestigious Dame Sister Mary Leo Scholarship. In 2016 school she also participated in a master class with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
Eliza’s other awards across the country include 1st place in the 2015 Dunedin Aria competition, 1st place in the 2014 Under 21 NZ Aria competition, 2nd place in the 2015 Napier Aria, 2nd place in the 2014 Christchurch Aria and 3rd place in the 2014 Hamilton Premier Award. She was also a finalist in the 2013 and 2015 NZ Aria competition, a semi-finalist at the 2014 National Young Performer Awards (PACANZ), a recipient of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Waikato Arts Excellence Award (2014) and the 2014 Associate Artist with the Hamilton Civic Choir.
Eliza has been teaching singing and piano for six years now and thoroughly enjoys being able to inspire and equip young musicians as they start out.
