Te Puna Tautoko literally means, 'the support source' and supporting Māori students throughout their endeavours here at Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato is our main priority. Te Puna Tautoko encompasses a diverse network of specialist Māori support staff across the University who are all committed to ensuring your success here and beyond, and Waikato boasts the highest success rate of Māori graduates because of this.

This website enables you to access the many services on offer to support you during your studies.  It also keeps you in touch with what's going on around the University in a social and cultural context.

Māori Mentoring Units

Our Māori Mentoring Units are dedicated to improving Māori student achievement at Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato.

Te Āhurutanga

Te Āhurutanga Māori Student Leadership Programme aims to develop and nurture Māori students to become good leaders and global citizens of the world.

Te Toi o Matariki

He karanga maioha tēnei ki ngā tauira Māori o Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato e whai nei i ngā tohu hōnore, ngā tohu paerua rānei.


Kaupapa Māori floors are available at Bryant Hall and College Hall for people who wish to live in an environment that fosters manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.

Counselling Service

Coming to University means big changes in your life and you may need someone to talk to if you experience personal stress, course related difficulties or relationship problems.
