Kaupapa Māori floors are available at Bryant Hall and College Hall for people who wish to live in an environment that fosters manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, te reo Māori and tikanga Māori. A strong interaction between first year residents and senior residents living on these floors is also encouraged. These elements provide a positive environment for academic development.
“Nga-Tokorua-a-Taingahue” (Bryant Hall) was established in 1990 and was the first kaupapa Māori floor in New Zealand. The success of this led to the establishment of “Hui Mai Tātou” at College Hall in 1996. Both these floors have a strong history of having accommodated many outstanding Māori students of the University.
