Accommodation

Bed and breakfast accommodation will be available in a student hall of residence for Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday nights at $55.00 per night. For many people, this will be the cheapest and most convenient form of accommodation but room numbers are limited. If you wish to exercise this option, you must prepay with registration.

If you do not wish to avail yourself of this opportunity, there are many other options but you will have to make your own arrangements. Google ‘Hamilton accommodation' to see what's available or you can check this website.

Accommodation off-campus ranges from 4-star hotels to motels to rural or urban bed & breakfast establishments to backpacker lodges. We suggest you check out the following but take no responsibility for the quality of your stay!

Hotels in the Hamilton CBD cover a range of price levels, are in the heart of the city's all too vibrant café strip and nightlife, and are also conveniently located for transportation to the campus. They include two relatively upmarket establishments - Novotel Tainui and Le Grand. The latter is cheaper overall but the former runs quite good weekend rates. The Commercial is probably the most affordable of all the central city hotels but, if you have your own transport, the Ambassador Motor Lodge or the Frankton, though further away, are also possibilities.

Should you prefer a motel, there are none very close to the university but there are some in Hamilton East, which is not too far away. The Aspen Motel and the Manhattan Lodge Motel are both on Grey Street. The former seems slightly more expensive than the latter but rates may vary.

For those seeking budget accommodation, Microtel seems decent and affordable but is on Ulster Street so not quite as close to campus and bus routes as the CBD hotels. J's Backpackers is near the Hamilton Gardens and advertises itself as closer to campus than any other - possibly no more than a 10-15 minute walk.
