Field Trips
The following field trips took place before the conference began. They provided an opportunity for participants to learn as well as a template for future field trips. The resources below are provided to help teachers with the planning and implementation of their own field trips. Conference organizers gratefully acknowledge the support of Environment Waikato in the preparation of this material.
Natural Processes:
Volcanic and Fluvial Environments
This field trip takes place in the central North Island and includes visits to volcanic sites and the catchment of the Waikato River between Hamilton and Taupo.

This trip examines the development and character of contemporary tourism in Rotorua, while also providing a gendered deconstruction of tourism in Rotorua.

Sustainable Dairying
This field trip, organised through DairyNZ takes place at the DairyNZ Taupiri Demonstration Farm, is tailored to support one of the most popular examples of (increasingly) sustainable use of resources in our agricultural sector. It also contains a virtual component.

Sustainable Use of Resources:
Bringing Nature into the City: Urban Planning in Hamilton
This field trip will demonstrate the importance of environmental management for urban sustainability and resident’s sense of place, and illustrate examples of ecological restoration in Hamilton. The field trip is broken into a morning and an afternoon phase, and people can attend either or both.
