Partner Organisations and Sponsors

Each of the partner organisations listed below has provided a brief statement about their activities, a link to their website and an outline of their proposed programmes for their specialist meetings or activities on Wednesday 20 January, 2010. Registered delegates to Positioning Geography are invited to attend either the meeting on curriculum implementation or any one of the IGU Commission meetings where they will be most welcome as guests.

The International Geographical Union (IGU) has the following aims:

(i) to promote the study of geographical problems;
(ii) to initiate and co-ordinate geographical research requiring international co-operation and to promote its scientific discussion and publication;
(iii) to provide for the participation of geographers in the work of relevant international organisations;
(iv) to facilitate the collection and diffusion of geographical data and documentation in and between all member countries;
(v) to promote International Geographical Congresses, regional conferences and specialised symposia related to the objectives of the Union;
(vi) to participate in any other appropriate form of international co-operation with the object of advancing the study and application of geography and;
(vii) to promote international standardisation or comparability of methods, nomenclature, and symbols employed in geography.
