Undergraduate Entry Requirements

There are several ways you can gain admission to degree study at the University of Waikato. It is likely that you will be accepted into a Waikato degree if you meet the criteria outlined on this page. However, some of our degrees have additional entry requirements.

Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Environmental Planning, Bachelor of Social Sciences, Bachelor of Media and Creative Technologies

If you have New Zealand University Entrance you will be guaranteed admission to this degree. All other applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Some papers have specific entry requirements and if you do not have the required background, you may be directed to take certain papers in your first year of study.

 

Bachelor of Music

If you have (or expect to gain) New Zealand University Entrance you are eligible to apply for this degree. You must also meet one of the following requirements:

  • NCEA - 14 credits in Music at Level 3
  • NCEA - 20 credits in Music at Level 2
  • A grade 5 theory pass or better in the Australian Music Education Board, Trinity College, or Royal College of Music examinations, or
  • A qualification considered equivalent

For the Performance stream, a selection process applies and you will be required to successfully complete an audition.

Some papers have specific entry requirements and if you do not have the required background, you may be directed to take certain papers in your first year of study.

All other applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

 

Bachelor of Social Work

If you have (or expect to gain) New Zealand University Entrance you are eligible to apply for this degree.

The degree has limited number of places available in the programme and in the papers. Acceptance into the BSW will depend on a successful interview and a clearance check with the Ministry of Justice to ensure you are a fit and proper person to practise Social Work.  You will be required to complete and return a Police Clearance Check (INCIS) form at the time of your interview.

 

Bachelor of Tourism

If you have (or expect to gain) New Zealand University Entrance you are eligible to apply for this degree.

Some papers have specific entry requirements and if you do not have the required background, you may be directed to take certain papers in your first year of study.

All other applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
