FRN (Faculty Research Network)

About FRN

FRN is a peer-to-peer, interdisciplinary, intra-faculty network comprised of both senior and beginning researchers. Members are dedicated to research capacity building, by sharing their experience and knowledge of research practices and methods, and useful information about the national and international research cultures to which they belong. It is unfunded, and runs collaboratively, as a community of learning and teaching.

FRN was established in 2005 by Associate Professor Mary Griffiths (Screen and Media). It is auspiced by the FASS Research Committee.

The inaugural presentation was given in 2005 by Professor Richard Bedford, who gave FRN members customised information on how to prepare portfolios. Since then, FRN has offered a follow-up by Professor Bedford on the implications of the PBRF environment and funding; and Roundtable presentations on MARSDEN Fund applications by both successful and unsuccessful applicants; new and international approaches to the PhD - including creative approaches to the thesis proper; and in May, 2006 an information session on book and journals' publishing. In addition, History researchers and others were invited to hear MARSDEN research fellows report on their research in a community outreach session.
