Student Exchange Programme
The University of Waikato has formal exchange agreements with a number of universities
around the world. Students in their second or third year of study at Waikato
can apply to participate on an exchange, and if approved by both universities,
can credit their overseas study to their Waikato degree.
Exchanges are available in the following countries: Canada, China (Hong Kong), England, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Turkey and the USA.
You can apply to participate on an exchange through the International Centre.
Students are responsible for their own travel, visa, medical and travel insurance,
and living expenses, but pay Waikato tuition fees here rather than full international
student tuition fees at the host institution.
An exchange programme may be of particular interest to students of languages
wishing to fully immerse themselves in the culture and language they are studying.
For many years now the German section of the Department of European and Hispanic
Studies has provided a range of opportunities for students of German to live,
study or work in Germany. Visit the German
website to find out more about this opportunity. The French section also
offers study abroad opportunities for students, visit the French
website for more information.
Study Abroad Programme
You may also attend another overseas university that The University of Waikato
does not have a formal agreement with. If your programme of study is approved
by both universities, you can receive credit towards your Waikato degree. People
choosing this option often have a particular university in mind that caters
to their learning or research interests. However, where no formal agreement
with the host university is held, you will have to pay full international student
fees, as well as the other costs involved.
Visit the International Centre's Exchange
and Study Abroad Programmes web-page for further information. You can also
fill out an online 'Information Request' form regarding student exchanges.
Please note: this information applies only to enrolled University of Waikato
students. International students wishing to study at The University of Waikato
will be required to pay International Student fees; you should refer to the
International Students website in the first instance.
