Research Interests:

American literature, including early American literature and nineteenth and early twentieth-century literature written by women.

I am a Senior Lecturer in English and Director of the American Studies Programme. I serve on the Executive Committee for the Australia and New Zealand American Studies Association and am a Fulbright Alumni. As a results of my work on Catherine Carswell I was made an Honorary Research Fellow of Glasgow University, Scotland in 2001. Please follow the buttons above and below for more information.

I was born and grew up in Cheshire, England. After emigrating to New Zealand I continued my studies extramurally through Massey University and later at the University of Waikato where I completed a DPhil in American Satire. My research interests remain in American literature, Nineteenth-Century literature and Early Modernism.
