The Tourism Development (formerly known as TRIP) major for the Bachelor of
Tourism degree comprises a mix of core papers on the construction and impacts of
tourism as a social process, as well as papers from social science disciplines
which assist students to explore gender, ethnic, regional and environmental
dimensions of tourism. Skills in environmental planning, social impact
assessment, and geographic information systems can be obtained from the wide
range of optional elective papers in the specific programme.
Recognising the need for a multidisciplinary approach to the issues created by tourism is the starting point of this programme. The impacts of tourism on communities, cultures and the environment provide the context of the programme. The adoption of ethical and cooperative approaches to tourism planning, management, business and tourism research is the intended outcome.
