Guidelines for the Submission of Articles to WaiMilHist (As at 16/6/99)
WaiMilHist is the Electronic Journal of Military History within the History Department at the University of Waikato, and is edited by the Chair of the Department, Dr. Laurie Barber, and Dr. DouglasSimes. We have published articles contributed by academics and graduate students at the University, and other students have submitted articles as part of their course work.
Anyone submitting Electronic Journal articles toWaiMilHist must go through the following steps:
(1) Typing. Articles must be formatted for single-sidedA4 paper on a double high-density (2HD) 3.5-inch floppy disc (preferably a PC disk). These are available from the History Department Secretary. If you do not possess, or do not have access to a suitable computer, there is a Maclab with AppleMacintosh and PC labs in the basement of "J"-Block.
(2) Submission of hard copies. Articles should be laid out in accordance with the format specified in the History Department guide Making the Grade, or standard academic format with proper endnotes.
(3) Submission of article on disc. Because of formatting problems, please do not use the Footnote and Endnote options on your computer. Instead, type out all your references at the conclusion of the article under the heading of "Endnotes".
(4) Submission of printed copies. Students submitting articles as part of their coursework must make 2 copies of the final draft of your article, and hand them in to either Dr. Barber or Dr. Simes along with the floppy disc. 1 copy will be marked and returned to you. The other copy and the disc will be used to format the article for inclusion in WaiMilHist . Other students and staff need submit only a single hard copy and a disc.
If you have any charts, tables or pictures to be included, please ensure they are copyright cleared before you hand them in as part of your work, and that you have clearly indicated where they are to be placed in your article. (If you have any queries at all about this, please contact the History Administrator, ext 4048, room J3.25)
(4) Deadlines. For the moment, WaiMilHist is being published twice a year, in July, at the end of the first semester, and at the end of the second semester in December. Articles written for courses in "A" semester will be included in the July edition, and articles for courses in "B" semester will appear in December. Students will be advised by lecturers of the last date for submission of articles as part of their course work, and articles handed in late will be published in the next edition at the end of the following semester.
(5) Web address. WaiMilHist can be accessed through the History Department website on the Humanities Home Page, or directly through the Internet by going to our Webpage at http://www2. waikato.ac.nz/humanities/history/journalfolder/waimilhistfolder/waimilhist.html and the E-mail address is history@waikato.ac.nz. or dgssimes@waikato.ac.nz.
