Theatre on Campus

There is a very active, year-round theatre culture which has emerged on campus over the past few years. There are opportunities for any interested student to get involved in a wide range of activities as, for example, writers, performers, technicians, directors or backstage crew.

Course Work

The practical papers in the Theatre Studies programme produce many informal performances, including improvised scene studies, weekend workshops on given playtexts, group-devised work, student-directed productions and the full production of major plays for public performance seasons.

In 2002, weekend-long workshops on given plays or topics were introduced as a practical component in the two 100 Level papers, On Stage: Theatre in New Zealand Theatres and The Wider Stage: Performance and Community in New Zealand. These workshops offer the opportunity for intensive practical studies to support the timetabled practical/theory classes during the week.
