PGCert(SLT) and PGDip(SLT)
The Postgraduate Diploma is available on-campus in Hamilton and in Distance/Block mode and may be taken full or part-time. The programme comprises 120 points, including APPL551, APPL554 and APPL555. With the approval of the Convenor of Applied Linguistics, students may substitute papers at an appropriate level from other subjects for up to two papers.
Admission and Programme Requirements:
To qualify for admission to the PGDip(SLT), candidates will normally hold a university degree, preferably in Linguistics, Education, or some related area, though applications from graduates in any discipline are welcome. Of advantage would be some experience in language teaching.
Students whose first language is not English must have an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no band lower than 6.0, or a TOEFL (paper-based) score of 600 including a Test of Written English of 5. All applications are studied by the Department, which may ask applicants for an interview and/or an essay.
Students should note that the use of computers for communication may be an assessed component of both on-campus and distance/block papers.
