Teacher cognition and classroom interaction and management

I started out as a BA student studying translation and worked as a translator. I am currently a member of NAATI organization which is an organization of translators and interpreters in Australia. I went to complete a Masters degree in language teaching and learning and worked as an English teacher in private institutes and later on as a lecturer at university. After that, I recognized the need to upgrade my knowledge and qualifications and now I am currently enrolled in a PHD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Waikato. As a second language learner and a non-native speaker of the language I became interested in language teaching and decided to pursue my tertiary education in this field. I am mostly interested in the cognitive and sociocultural dimensions of language teaching and learning. My current PHD research will investigate the underlying beliefs that the teachers hold about managing classroom interaction and navigation and negotiation of meaning. The cognitive dimension of teachers is one of the most important factors influencing the teaching and learning process in the field of ESL/EFL.  Students' needs, beliefs, cognitive and affective growth also influences the whole teaching and learning process and learning effectiveness. In future I plan to work as a lecturer in the field of applied linguistics and also work as a translator.
