All teaching staff in the programme are registered Clinical Psychologists, and share responsibility for teaching and mentoring students and overseeing the policies and procedures of the programme.
Dr Cornsweet Carol Barber
Carrie is the Director of the Clinical Psychology Programme. Carrie’s clinical experience is with assessment and treatment of children and adolescents, as well as perinatal mental health and issues relating to parenting. Her research experience includes evaluation of the outcomes of intensive mental health services to children and adolescents, as well as social services to homeless youth; her current research focus is on perinatal mental health and transition to parenting.
Associate Professor Douglas Boer
Douglas was the Director of the Clinical Psychology Programme from 2005 through 2009. His research interests include the assessment and treatment of sexual and intellectually disabled offenders as well as culturally appropriate risk assessment.
Dr Jo Thakker
Jo is a senior lecturer for the clinical programme. Her clinical experience includes work in the areas of sexual offending, violent offending, and forensic mental health. Her research interests include cross-cultural psychology, theoretical psychology, and substance use and abuse.
Kyle Smith
Kyle is the Senior Clinical Tutor for the Clinical Psychology Programme and a registered Clinical Psychologist. Her experience is in the area of the study and application of psychology for the purpose of understanding, assessing, and treating psychologically-based distress with individuals, couples, families, and groups. She has special interests in anxiety and depression, particularly postnatal anxiety and depression. Her interests also include working with multi-disciplinary teams, consultation, teaching, research, and program development and administration.
