Cherie Todd, PhD Candidate, Geography
Supervised by Professor Robyn Longhurst

Cherie Todd's research investigates the ways in which love and romance develop and evolve within the virtual environments of online games like World of Warcraft. Within these types of online games there is a degree of freedom from conventional constraints and as such, things like societal and personal expectations, and physical attributes all become fluid constructs. Online gaming spaces are typically thought of as arenas for playing games, where personal and communicative aspects are overlooked, however, Cherie's study examines the ways in which these types of online gaming environments (re)produce a space where people can develop interpersonal and intimate connections with others.
