Director's Welcome

Bronwen Cowie

Welcome to the Wilf Malcolm Institute of Educational Research (WMIER)

Our aim is to “make a difference” through research that influences the development of educational policy and teaching practice across the sector.

Through eight well-established networks, we undertake research related to curriculum, learning, teaching and assessment spanning the whole field of education from early childhood, through compulsory schooling and on to the tertiary sector.

We focus particularly on the “three C’s” – culture, capacity and capability.

We foster a collaborative approach, leading projects involving academics from Waikato University’s Faculty of Education as well as other institutions in New Zealand and overseas. We have a breadth of expertise and experience, and can pull together projects from proposal and funding application stage through to successful completion and reporting.

Since our establishment in 2002 we have developed a reputation for educational research that is second-to-none in New Zealand. Please explore our website for more details. We welcome enquiries about our research and collaborative projets.
