Research team: Mira Peter, Jenny Young Loveridge, Merilyn Taylor and Sashi Sharma, Ngarewa Hawera, Richard Hill, Tracey Carlyon, Anthony Fisher and Noeline Wright.
Project Dates: 2011 - 2012
WMIER has been commissioned by the Ministry of Education to conduct an evaluation of the Literacy and Mathematics Additional Learning Programmes for Students 2011. The Additional Learning Programmes for Students involve a number of schools and focuses on a particular area of accelerating literacy and mathematics learning for small groups of students. There are four Literacy projects and two Mathematics projects. A key expectation of the projects is that responsive pedagogy underpins instruction, which includes the identity, language and culture of the students. The focus of the evaluation will be on the extent to which literacy and mathematics projects accelerate learning of students and in particular the learning of Māori and Pasifika students.
