Track Cycling

Callum Saunders is a former Marlborough Boys’ College student, studying a Bachelor of Management Studies at the University of Waikato. Starting his sporting career off with the classic Weet-Bix Kids’ Triathlon, Callum progressed to mountain bike racing, then to road cycling and finally to competitive track cycling, which he’s been doing since he was 13 years old. Over the years he has competed in local, Tasman, South Island, National and World Championships events. In 2013 he won three silver medals at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival, subsequently earning a spot at the Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. In 2012 he won the National Under-20 Men’s Road Race at the National Secondary Schools’ Road Championships and in 2013 won the Under-20 Men’s Points Race. Callum will balance his studies with an intense training schedule, mixing road, track and gym sessions for up to 30 hours a week. He plans to continue racing at an elite level for as long as he can in pursuit of Olympic gold.
