"“I consider myself a very privileged migrant, but like every other migrant in the world, I don’t belong where I came from anymore, and I will never fully belong where I go… ” – Francesco Turrisi
A true “musical alchemist,” Francesco Turrisi is one of the most striking pianists to come out of the European jazz scene in the past decade.
His vast range of collaborations includes artists from jazz, world and early music, illustrating a remarkable versatility. Ian Patterson (All About Jazz) says “For Turrisi, tradition and improvisation are not different countries but two sides of the same mountain”.
Northern Migrations features original solo piano compositions and improvisations, narrating the story of his lifelong journey from the heart of the Mediterranean to the moody surrounds of Ireland.
Formal and folkloric, Turrisi weaves threads of early-Baroque, Mediterranean, minimalistic and Renaissance music through a prism of jazz improvisation, creating a unique and haunting musical language.
