Mrs Jillian Lunn
Facilitator - Te Toi Tupu/NAPP
Qualifications: Trained Teachers Certificate (Ardmore Teachers College), Graduate Diploma of Educational Leadership (University of Waikato), Masters of Educational Leadership (Hons) (University of Waikato)
I started as a teacher trainee at Ardmore College and this has had a lasting impact on my life. I was a teacher for many years in my hometown of Gisborne before shifting to work in Hamilton. I taught in several schools in Hamilton before becoming Principal of Melville Primary School. After nine years at Melville I chose to go to Hong Kong and work in curriculum development there, as the experience of working in another culture in a foreign language, in work I loved doing was perfectly timed. While I was in Hong Kong I worked on my Masters of Educational Leadership through the online forum with Waikato University. Following the conclusion of my contract in Hong Kong I returned to work at the University of Auckland as a Leadership and Management facilitator. While at the University of Auckland I became the Associate Director of the First time Principals Programme. The pull of the Waikato was too strong and after 5 years in Auckland I returned to the Waikato. I am now the National Coordinator of the National Aspiring Principals Programme, a contract awarded to Te Toi Tupu by the Ministry of Education of which the University of Waikato is the lead provider. This work continues to be challenging and rewarding as I work in a team committed to designing and developing a professional learning programme in leadership and principalship of New Zealand schools with a mantra of "What could be!"
These have all been defining parts of my educational journey, and I am grateful for the wonderful experiences I have had in education
