High Risk Cover
The University’s insurer maintains a list of destinations which are regarded as being high risk. If a staff member applies for insurance cover to travel to one of these countries the insurance broker will contact the University to update it on the risk status of that country and inform it of any additional premium that will be charged. Until formal agreement is given by the University no cover is in place.
Additional costs of cover can be very high in these cases, often in the vicinity of $1,000 per week. Cover will only be taken out if the travel is specifically authorised by the Vice Chancellor or the Deputy Vice Chancellor. Please refer to the Travel and Accommodation Policy, sections 98 – 106.
All additional premium costs incurred by the University will be charged to the staff member’s department.
