Computer Software
Installing programs
We have a system called AppV that deploys some applications to you personally (based on your log on), rather than being installed on your computer in the traditional way. This means that when you log on to a computer anywhere on campus, you will be able to use these particular applications (if that computer supports AppV).
NOTE - not all applications will be available in this way, and common ones like the Microsoft Suite will still be installed on your computer in the normal way (and only available at that one computer).
The applications managed by AppV will need to be made available to you at the server end. You can call the Service Desk or speak to your computer consultant to get this done. Remember that you still need licences for some software before it is deployed in any way.

Before you can use the AppV applications your machine must have the operating system reinstalled. Some programs will be installed along with the operating system (these will only be available to you when logged on to that computer).
Other applications (deployed by AppV) will be found by clicking on Start - All Programs and looking in the folder called My Roaming Apps. The only difference between these apps and the standard apps are that the apps in your My Roaming Apps folder are available to you wherever you log on, on campus.
One thing to look out for is the new icon that appears by your clock. It looks like this. This is to do with AppV and can essentially be ignored by you (but don't remove it please).
Remember that this will be rolled out gradually to machines around the campus, and may not be available right now. If you have any queries about this you can call the ITS Service Desk (4008) or phone your own computer support person.
