Staff Accounts

Access

You will need a computer account in order to access computers on the campus network. You will be required to abide by the University of Waikato Computer System Regulations

To request an account you need to see your division / faculty administrator and they will create one for you in UniAccess. Access to the Resource (staff/dept share) that you require can be requested via UniAccess/ log Kuhukuhu ticket.

If you are accessing your staff account off campus, you will need to have Duo Mobile app setup for Two-Factor Authentication

The level of access depends on your position and what was requested when your account was set up. A basic account lets you use/access the following:

  • Email account – Gmail, Google drive and Google Apps
  • Internet access - wired in your office and wireless via Eduroam.
  • Printing, scanning and copying
  • The UoW staff Home page
  • UoW network
  • Access to H: Drive (Home Share) a secure area to store files (16 GB for staff - 1 GB for External staff). Also accessible from off campus - Web Drive / Web Home.
  • Resource booker

Username

Your username will be between 3 and 8 characters in length, should reflect your name and will be unique to you. It will identify you on the University network.

Password

Passwords can be between 7 and 120 characters in length and comprise a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols and should not be a simple English word, generally, the longer the password the more secure it is. It is also inappropriate to use your name or username in any form, or any 'obvious' or easily obtainable personal information (i.e. date of birth, favorite sports team, pet's name, etc.). Suitable passwords would therefore include '[email protected]' or '$l33pFr0gLe4p' but not 'Crusaders' or 'Tiddles'

Passwords should be kept secret at all times. Users must not, under any circumstances, disclose their password to others.

Email

All staff accounts have an Email account generated for them in google mail upon creation on their username.  The email address created is [email protected].

Our Email Naming Conventions include an email alias of [email protected] which will become the primary email address seen in all email communications.  For example Jane Smith would have an email of [email protected], if the name is already taken, some variation of it will be available like [email protected] or [email protected] and will be assigned to you.

Forgotten Passwords

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it here, or your account has been locked you will need to ring the Service Desk on ext 4008 (838 4008) as we do not change passwords via email.

"Kuhukuhu" is our IT Service Catalogue. You can search for and log your own service requests. You can also view the status of your current requests and see the estimated delivery time for them, provide further information by adding notes or attaching files, and view a full history of all previous requests.
