How to Delete Your Cookies & Temporary Internet Files

If you are having issues with some of your files e.g. an old file keeps opening after you have added a new file in Moodle or you are unable to access some sites or databases e.g. My Account at the Library, you will need to clear out the Internet search history (cache) on your computer by deleting your cookies and temporary internet files as follows:

Google Chrome

  • Click Customize and control Google Chrome the 3 vertical dots (top right of your browser), and select Settings > Privacy and security
  • Click Clear browsing data to bring up the window below and check settings as shown
  • Be sure to select the Time range as All time.

  • Click Clear data
  • Close and re-open your browser

Internet Explorer:

  • Click Tools (the cog on the top right of your browser window)
  • Select Internet Options
  • Click the "Delete…" button

  • Tick Temporary Internet files and website files, Cookies and website data and History
  • Click Delete

IE cache

  • Click OK
  • Close and re-open your browser


  • Click the Open Menu, the 3 horizontal bars (top right of your browser) , and choose Options
  • Select the Privacy & Security panel
  • In the Cookies and Site Data section, click Clear Data.

  • Tick the Cookies and Site Data and Cached Web Content boxes
  • Click Clear
  • Close and re-open your browser


  • Click Safari (on the Safari Menu Bar) > Click Preferences
  • In the Preferences window, click the Privacy tab.
  • Click Remove all Website Data...

  • Click Remove Now on the pop-up window.

Microsoft Edge

  • Click the 3 horizontal dots (top right of your browser), and select Settings
  • Click Privacy, search, and services
  • Under Clear browsing data click the blue button Choose what to clear
  • Select All time for the Time range and click the blue button Clear now
