Help Files

There are extensive Moodle help files and videos for staff available online in our eLearning Resources Help Files.
Also, check out the General Semester Reminders (more expanded info than below) at the beginning of each semester to refresh your memory.

Staff Access

In order to see and have access to your paper/s in Moodle, you will need to speak to your department administrator who will add you to your papers through the Staff role association tool in MyWaikato.

NOTE: If you require a meta-paper (two occurrences taught in the one Moodle space) complete the Meta-paper Request form BEFORE you begin development on your paper.

Paper Setup

Organise your course, how the sections are displayed and add any blocks that may be required (e.g. Panopto block if your lectures are being recorded). Change permissions or restrict access, address plagiarism by enabling Turnitin etc. (See QuickFind below)


Import content from a previous year, you will find Moodle Help along the top menu tabs in Moodle, select For staff and choose 'Manage my paper' from the left menu or choose any other menu item you would like more information on.

Student Access

The last thing to do once your paper is set up is to make the paper available to students, 'Manage Paper' on the top right of your screen and select 'Edit settings' and change 'Course visibility from 'Hide' to 'Show', scroll to the bottom of the page and select 'Save and display'. This is often forgotten as staff have access and forget that it needs to be turned on for students.

Guest Access

If you have a guest visitor/lecturer that needs access to your paper (and they don't have an HR contract) see Moodle Access for Guest Lecturers for the process to provide them access.

"Kuhukuhu" is our IT Service Catalogue. You can search for and log your own service requests. You can also view the status of your current requests and see the estimated delivery time for them, provide further information by adding notes or attaching files, and view a full history of all previous requests.
