Eduroam is a special wireless network that provides a method for staff from participating institutions to log on to a University's wireless network using their home institution network login and password.
Once connected to Eduroam, a visitor to our University will have access to resources at their home institution (usually via VPN) and whatever services are provided by the University of Waikato (ie limited Internet access and access to KAREN). This service is also used at other institutions around the world.
When would I use it?
When visiting other institutions that have implemented Eduroam so that you can easily access University of Waikato resources (via VPN), and KAREN (Gmail and Google Apps should be accessible) and other Internet resources (if the hosting institution permits).
For University of Waikato staff the Eduroam wireless network is also the recommended wireless network to use while on campus, as more services are available and there are fewer restrictions than on the standard open-access "Waikato" wireless network.
How do I access it?
You simply connect your wireless device to the "Eduroam" wireless network on campus, or at any other institution that has an "Eduroam" wireless network, log in using your University of Waikato staff email address (full username eg email@example.com) and password.
You will need to access it on campus first before you travel in order to be able to connect at other participating institutions.
See Eduroam @ the University of Waikato to setup and configure your device in order to use Eduroam.
The University has provided a Self Service tool through which you can log your own support tickets (jobs). You can also search for a previously logged ticket to check its status. For urgent jobs you can phone the ITS Service Desk: ext 4008 (838 4008) for support.
