AV Loan Equipment

Please read the Loan Equipment Policy so you are familiar with your responsibilities when borrowing equipment.

NOTE: Equipment on loan is NOT covered by the University Insurance - it is the borrower's responsibility to ensure that they have suitable insurance coverage.

Hours

In Hamilton AV equipment can be collected and returned from the ITS AV Counter - ITS.G.53 at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday: 8.30am - 9.30am  +  11am - 12noon  +  4pm - 5pm

In Tauranga AV equipment can be collected and returned from the Tech Desk in the Hub at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday: 8.30am - 5pm

Equipment can be booked by logging a "Borrow ICT Equipment" request in Kuhukuhu.


Part 1: General use

The following equipment is available for use by any student or staff member. Borrowers will need to complete an equipment loan card and some equipment will require lecturers permission (endorsing a blue equipment loan card). See the Loan Equipment Policy for more details.

Digital Dictaphone

  • For recording interviews and focus group discussions
  • Records as .wma audio files which can be downloaded to your computer
  • Comes with “Soundgrabber” microphone for better results with focus groups
  • Long recording time and battery life
  • Available to all staff and students – No lecturer permission required
  • Available at Hamilton and Tauranga

Digital Transcriber Kit

  • Allows hands-free, controlled playback of previously recorded audio files
  • Foot pedal control
  • Variable speed playback, plus adjustable “rollback”
  • Comes with Olympus DSS Player software CD – requires administrator rights to load on computer
  • Available to all staff and students – No lecturer permission required
  • Available at Hamilton and Tauranga

Small Video Camera

  • Suitable for recording short videos for assignments or presentations
  • 1080 High Definition video standard
  • Approx. 4.5 hours recording time on internal memory card (Supplied)
  • Approx. 8 Hours Battery life
  • Good internal microphone – not suitable for connecting external microphones
  • Use with small or medium tripods (Booked separately)
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) and all staff
  • Available at Hamilton and Tauranga

DSLR Still / Video camera

  • Single lens reflex camera optimised for 12 Megapixel still images
  • Also records 720 High Definition Video
  • Records on internal memory card (Supplied)
  • Supplied with 2 batteries
  • Alternative lenses available (Hamilton Only)
  • Good internal microphone – not suitable for connecting external microphones
  • Use with small or medium tripods (Booked separately)
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) and all staff
  • Available at Hamilton and Tauranga

Camera Tripod

  • For safe, stable video or still images
  • Two types, small or medium (Hamilton Only)
  • Mounting plate screws into bottom of camera (standard size)
  • For use with Small video cameras or DSLRs
  • Remember to replace the mount plate after use
  • Available to all staff and students – No lecturer permission required
  • Available at Hamilton and Tauranga

DSLR Lenses

  • Interchangeable lenses for Canon DSLR cameras
  • 60mm Macro lens for close-up work
  • 50-250mm Zoom Lens
  • 70-300mm Zoom Lens
  • 10-22mm Wide Angle Lens
  • 8-15mm Fisheye Lens (Ultra-Wide Angle)
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) and all staff
  • Available at Hamilton only

Part 2: Video Production equipment

The following items are intended for students studying specific courses requiring “high-end” production equipment (e.g Screen and Media, Photography and Computer Graphics papers)

This equipment is located in Hamilton only

AC90 Video Camera

  • High Quality video camera
  • 1080 High Definition video
  • Records to SDHC memory cards (User to supply)
  • Comes with large fluid head tripod
  • 2 batteries supplied (4hours operation each)
  • Battery charger and mains power supply
  • XLR external Microphone inputs
  • Many manual functions
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) – Production students

C100 Video Camera

  • High Quality “Cine-type” video camera
  • 1080 High Definition video
  • Records to SDHC memory cards (User to supply)
  • Comes with large fluid head tripod
  • 2 batteries supplied (4hours operation each)
  • XLR external Microphone inputs
  • Interchangeable lenses – can use all DSLR lenses
  • Many manual functions
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) –  Year 3 and Postgrad Production students only

Olympus LS-100 Audio Recorder

  • Records high-quality audio for video production work
  • Built in Stereo microphones
  • XLR external microphone inputs
  • Records to internal memory and SD card (Supplied)
  • Comes with mains power adaptor / charger
  • Headphones supplied
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) – Production students

Boom Microphone Kit

  • Directional “shotgun” microphone with wind muff and pistol grip suspension
  • 10m XLR Lead
  • 2.6m lightweight extendable boom
  • Connects to High-end video cameras and LS100 audio recorders
  • Cannot connect to DSLR or small video cameras.
  • Headphones supplied
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) – Production students

LED Lighting Kit (3 Colour)

  • Kit Contains 3x LED PAR38 lamps (with stands) and 1 controller pack
  • 3 colour RGB LEDs allow any colour of light to be generated
  • Controlled using DMX light control panel – 3 channels per lamp
  • Comes with DMX and power leads
  • Large case (with wheels) – we recommend 2-person lift.
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) – Production students

LED Lighting Kit (Fresnel)

  • Kit contains 3x White LED Fresnel lamps with stands
  • White LEDs adjustable through different colour temperatures
  • Intensity can be adjusted 0-100%
  • Barn-door assembles fitted. Large case (with wheels) – we recommend 2-person lift.
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) – Production students

Fluorescent light kit

  • Kit contains one Fluoro Panel light and stand
  • Very even, natural light suitable for small spaces (e.g office interviews)
  • Adjustable intensity
  • Colour temperature can be changed by swapping tubes (daylight and tungsten equivalents provided)
  • Adjustable shutters and diffuser plate
  • Wooden carry crate

Dedo Light

  • Supplied as individual lamp assemblies with power supplies and stands
  • Small halogen spotlights
  • Used for animation and miniature work
  • Fragile – hot when operating
  • Available to students with lecturer permission (Blue Card) – Production students

Part 3: Audio Visual presentation equipment

The following items are available to staff only.

Data Projector

  • Compact, portable data Projector
  • Connection options – VGA, HDMI, USB, Composite and component video
  • Users will need to supply any adaptors required to connect between these connections and laptops (e.g. Mac)
  • Available in Hamilton and Tauranga

Projection Screen

  • Various sizes 1.7 – 1.9m Screen Width
  • Easy set up – pull up from floor
  • Easy carry
  • Available in Hamilton and Tauranga

Public Address System

  • Easy to set up
  • Fully wireless – Battery powered (Mains power option)
  • Two speakers with stands
  • 1x wireless Lapel microphone and 1x handheld microphone
  • Microphone stand available
  • Carried in wheeled suitcase (Speaker stands additional)
  • Available in Hamilton and Tauranga

Other AV equipment (available Hamilton Only)

  • Portable Document camera
  • Computer speakers
  • Portable video conference kit
  • Group conference microphone set

Laptops:

The ITS Loan pool does not include any laptop computers. Many faculties and divisions on campus have laptops available, configured to suit the particular requirements of each group of users – check with your departmental administrator or ICT consultants.

You can also view the status of your current requests - providing further information by adding notes or attaching files, and view a full history of all previous requests.
