About this opportunity

Recent work in Michèle Prinsep’s group reported the isolation and structural elucidation of five new members of the Denigrin family (DOI: 10.3390/md22050231). These newly reported compounds feature intriguing sulfation patterns of unclear biogenic origin. Assessment of the bioactivity of these compounds was limited by the low yield of purified compounds.

In this project we propose to undertake total syntheses of these novel compounds and develop a general method for synthesis of this family enabling preparation of novel analogues.

This project is funded by a University of Waikato Seeker Doctoral Scholarship.
