Finding New Zealand Newspapers

The Library has access to a range of New Zealand newspapers. This guide will help you learn how to locate and use the following resources:

  1. Databases containing newspapers. For a more thorough search of NZ newspaper articles.
  2. Newspapers listed by name. The newspaper may be held in print, online, or on microfilm. We don’t list newspapers that are listed in Papers Past and which we don’t hold in any other format.

Search newspapers, journals, newswires, media programme transcripts, pictures, and company background data extending back over 25 years in this global news and information service. Only three simultaneous logins are permitted.

FindNZarticles provides access to New Zealand content, including material by or about New Zealanders, from a range of New Zealand newspapers and journals. Includes index to Te Ao Hou.
Coverage: Index
Contains abstracts of selected New Zealand serials, including newspapers, about New Zealand and the South Pacific. Subjects covered include general interest material, social research, current affairs, the arts and humanities.
A collection of historic newspapers published primarily for a Māori audience between 1842 and 1932.
The New Zealand Index is a unique aggregation of data sources including NZ Science, Newzindex, Index New Zealand, INZART, Index Auckland, the Newspaper Index, the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly Index, bibliographies, regional news indexes, Manukau’s Journey and more.
Newztext contains the full text of key New Zealand news and business publications. It is both a research tool and a long-term archive and is updated daily. Newztext is produced by The Knowledge Basket utilising contributions from numerous publishers.
