The purpose of the Centre is to undertake and promote research on corporate law, corporate governance and securities regulation and to provide a focal point for those working in these areas.

The Financial Markets Authority enforces securities, financial reporting, and company law as they apply to financial services and securities markets. The FMA supercedes the Securities Commission of New Zealand.

The Companies Office is the government agency responsible for the administration of corporate body registers in New Zealand, including the Companies Register.
