Getting Started

Log in to your Waikato Reading Lists account

Click on Log in and if prompted enter your University of Waikato username and password.

Create your profile

You only need to create your profile once.

  1. Go to http://readinglists.waikato.ac.nz
  2. Click on Log In.
  3. Click Create Profile.
  4. Fill in the details.
  5. Click Save.

Find your list

  1. Go to your profile by clicking your name and View profile (you may need to log in first).
  2. Click on the tab My invites.
  3. Under actions, click the vertical ellipsis and Accept invite.
  4. If there are no invitations or you can't see your list, contact your Academic Liaison Librarian.
  5. You can now locate your list(s) by clicking My Lists

Install the bookmarking browser extension

Bookmarks are links to resources such as books, journal articles, websites, videos, etc.

To create these links you will need to install a bookmark extension in your browser to bookmark resources. Bookmarking records the details of resources which can then be added to your lists. You will need to do this once for each computer/browser that you use.

Follow these instructions for installing a bookmarking extension for:

  1. Go to Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarking or search for Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarking in Firefox Add-ons.
  2. Click on Add to Firefox.
  3. Select Add.

To configure the extension to work with Waikato Reading Lists:

  1. Click on the Menu button in the toolbar next to the Talis Aspire Bookmarking icon.
  2. Select Add-ons.
  3. Select Options for the Talis Aspire Bookmarking Add-on.
  4. Choose University of Waikato from the drop-down list and click Save.
  5. Close the tab.

The add-on will sit in your toolbar and items can be added to your bookmarks by clicking on the Talis Bookmarking icon.

  1. Go to Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarking or search for Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarking in the Chrome Webstore.
  2. Click on Add to Chrome. Bookmarking Extension Chrome image 1
  3. Select Add Extension.

To configure the extension to work with Waikato Reading Lists:

  1. Right click on the Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarking extension.
  2. Select Options.
  3. Choose University of Waikato from the drop-down list and click Save.Bookmarking Extension Chrome image 5
  4. Close the box.

The extension will sit in your toolbar and items can be added to your bookmarks by clicking on the Talis Aspire Bookmarking icon.

Essential Tips

  • To populate your list, you need to navigate to an item and then add it to your bookmarks, or use Add Resources within your list.
  • Where possible, bookmark from Library Search or Library databases – this gives the best metadata.
  • When bookmarking from Library Search or Library databases, use the individual record view of the item DO NOT bookmark from the results list or from a PDF.
  • You can edit any field in a bookmark except ISBN or ISSN.
  • For electronic resources check that the 'Online Resources' box is ticked. A pop-up box will ask where to link. Select an option in this order of preference: DOI, Web address, Open URL. Click on 'Link to' to confirm the preferred option is selected.
