Smartphone winner: University of Waikato engineering student Charles Gao is presented with a smartphone by Michelle Jordan-Tong, Head of the Student and Academic Services Division.
University of Waikato Engineering student Charles Gao has won a Nokia Lumia smartphone from the University for taking part in the International Student Barometer (ISB) survey.
Charles’ name was drawn from the pool of 446 Waikato students who took part in the survey.
The ISB survey, invited international students to give their feedback on their experiences at the university.
Loving Waikato
Charles came to Waikato University in 2011 from China. “I chose to study at a university because I enjoy being surrounded by the academic environment. At Waikato we have some of the best facilities provided to students, for instance the library, computer labs, etc, and one can always find a suitable and comfortable place to study.
“The reason why I would recommend the university to others looking to study overseas is that Waikato provides a variety of opportunities to the students, including international students, to discover and maximise their potential,” says Charles.
Results
The University of Waikato’s overall results are being compiled and will be benched marked against other New Zealand universities and more than 100 foreign universities.
The ISB tracks the decision making, perceptions, expectations and experiences of students studying outside their home country.
Outcome
Last year’s survey found the University of Waikato led New Zealand universities in a number of key areas such as international students’ satisfaction with: their arrival experience, accommodation quality, quality lectures, performance feedback, and learning spaces. It also helped the university make a number of changes, to things like visa-processing and careers services, to ensure the services for international students are as supportive as possible.
The results of this year’s survey are expected in late August.
