The University of Waikato is launching a new China Learning Centre at its partner institute, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), to support more students to undertake face-to-face learning while the New Zealand borders remain restricted.
Launching on 1 March, students from across China can attend SISU’s Shanghai campus and undertake their University of Waikato foundation and first year undergraduate degree programme in a selected range of subjects in business, arts and social sciences. The programme will be taught in person on SISU’s campus.
The University has appointed three staff members to work from SISU with additional support from SISU staff where required.
University of Waikato Director of International, Sharon Calvert, says the University has a long-term relationship with SISU spanning 26 years, and includes a joint training programme between the two organisations.
“The University of Waikato China Learning Centre will support those students who want an on-campus experience and learning face-to-face, and all the benefits of being able to engage directly with their peers and our staff.
The China Learning Centre will operate until New Zealand’s border restrictions are lifted and students can relocate to New Zealand.
“This will ensure our students are well placed to continue their programmes here in New Zealand at either our Hamilton or Tauranga campuses, as soon as they can safely return.”
