About Suzette
As a scholar in the fields of organisational behaviour and human resource management, I research in the specialised areas of gender and diversity management, globalisation and the sustainability of small communities, management pedagogy, and career management.
As a qualitative researcher, the main focus of my work examines women’s paid and unpaid employment experiences. My work in this area includes examining women’s career and leadership experiences, the complexity of negotiating unpaid work within dual-earner families, young women’s perceptions of gendered employment processes and outcomes and of feminism, and sexual harassment. I also research migrant experiences of living and working in New Zealand.
My work on globalisation and small communities demonstrates how union activism enhances community sustainability; analyses the impact of neo-liberalism on small communities; and details how globalisation changes community identity.
My ongoing interest in management pedagogy keeps me actively involved in research projects investigating student learning experiences within the management classroom. This interest has resulted in theoretical contributions to learning models and the publication of the textbook Understanding Management Critically. My expertise in career management has informed the design of a new project examining the effect of careers education and guidance on the career planning of university students.
My research informs my teaching in the specialised areas of gender and diversity management and career management and development. I welcome inquiries from Masters Students and PhD candidates who are interested in applying qualitative methodologies to their research on the gendering of employment and careers.
If you would like to talk with me about my research or other projects, connect with me via email.
