As an experienced rumaki reo Māori teacher and principal in the Māori medium schooling sector within Aotearoa NZ. My philosophy considers holistic education underpinned by language, culture, practices and values enable on-going emancipation and transformation through education for whānau, hapu and iwi. My masters research considered strengthening whānau engagement and succession in Kura-ā-iwi. The transformative praxis integral within Maori medium supports the revitalisation of te reo me ōna tikanga. Having scoped doctoral studies in 2017, I will attend a Phd writing retreat at Hopuhopu in January 2018. The Kaupapa Māori theory and methodology will be integral in this doctoral research journey.

A lifetime of experiences raised within rural Māori communities has and continues to influence the lens in she views the world. The innate connection to whānau (family), hapū (extended whānau) and iwi (tribe) and innate aspirations to contribute to the succession and wellbeing for Māori and by Māori is ongoing. Māori women in Educational Leadership and teaching is of particular interest. The opportunity to an interview school and programme leaders, students and parents within an Arareo Māori Innovative Learning Environments (ILE) in 2017 as an emerging researcher will be ongoing. This ILE initiative is facilitated by WMIER at the Te Kura Toi Tangata/ Faculty of Education.
Teaching interests include — Te Huarahi Arareo Māori/ Māori medium education, Māori curriculum, pedagogy and critical thinking.

Recently co-supervised a Master of Educational Leadership student to complete a 2 paper dissertation. Based on her grades and marks across her masters degree enrolment, she qualifies to graduate with First Class Honours.
Attending the MAI Writing Retreat 23-29th January - Hopuhopu Hamilton, NZ. This will be the commencement of my doctoral studies, with the intention to enrol in the Education Doctorate for the 2018 July intake.
