About Ye Chow

Dr. Ye Chow Kuang graduated with the first-class degree honours in Electromechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton in 2000 with the Institute of Electrical Engineers Southern Award for Outstanding Academic Performance. He completed his PhD under the sponsorship of the United Kingdom Overseas Research Studentship in the University of Southampton Tony Davies High Voltage Laboratory  in 2004. He worked in the School of Engineering, Monash University between 2005-2018. He is currently a fulltime academic member of the emerging School of Engineering University of Waikato.

In nearly two decades of his career, Dr. Kuang has taught wide range of engineering subjects covering circuit  theory, signal processing, instrumentation & measurement, reliability engineering, control theory, electrical machines & drives, electronics testing, electromagnetics, system engineering, programming and engineering mathematics. He led an award-winning team to reform an undergraduate engineering education programme which enhances key professional skills and work-readiness (with the direct sponsorship of multinational companies). For this work, he was awarded the Pro-Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society Faculty Course Development Award and the International Education Association of Australia Excellence Award in Best Practices / Innovation in International Education.

Dr. Kuang main research works fall in the areas of statistical computational intelligence, automation (fault diagnostic, knowledge discovery), signal processing and applied probability theory. Through working in close collaboration with many multinational companies, he has developed new techniques and data handling methodologies that are adopted by the industry partners. In the recent years he has also developed new measurement uncertainty evaluation approaches and frameworks with application to a multitude of science and technological areas (medical research, structural design, mechanical systems modelling, etc.). He took University and School leadership roles at different time in the past; and led the initiative of developing Graduate Research School from 10 to 140 students in 5 years.

Dr. Kuang is a Chartered Engineer registered by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET, UK) and professional engineer registered by Malaysia Board of Engineers. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE, USA), the Chair of the Technical Committee on Fault Tolerant Measurement Systems (TC-32) of the IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Society. His chapter was awarded the IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Society Best Technical Committee Award under his stewardship. He co-founded IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Society Malaysia Chapter and IEEE Technology & Engineering Management Society Malaysia Chapter. He has been reviewer and associate editor for several well-known academic journals.
