Why did you choose to study science at the University of Waikato?
The staff were really helpful and kind and supportive of me to achieve my goal of completing degrees in both education and science within five years. The science labs are also really cool and the people here study some really interesting stuff.
What have been the highlights of your study so far?
The field trips! These have been great opportunities to get to know the students in my labs better and learn about the many different ways I could use my degree in the future.
What are your plans once you've finished your degree?
I hope to work at an awesome primary school for about five years while I gain confidence in teaching and then move up to secondary school level and teach Biology. I hope to be as awesome as my high school Biology teacher who helped me find my interest and passion for science.
What's your number one tip for making the most of your time at university?
Try to attend everything on your timetable and don’t let other people’s lack of motivation rub off on you. Show up for yourself and make sure study is at the forefront of your mind. It’s easy to feel isolated and unmotivated sometimes but if you just show up to your classes you are much more likely to stay on track. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it, from friends and lecturers and of course, help others when you can too. I also highly recommend you buy a diary and use it!
