Kīngitanga Day 2011
‘He aha te mahi mō runga i te marae e tū nei, e ko te tui, e ko te tui, e ko te hono ki te kotahitanga ki te Kīngi Māori e tū nei!’
‘What is the purpose for the gathering on this Marae, it is to weave together and unit us all under the mantle of the Kīngitanga and the Māori King!’
On the 14 of April Kīngitanga Day was held at Waikato University. In it’s third year the main objective of Kīngitanga Day is to provide an opportunity for all people, Māori and non-Māori to celebrate, be exposed to, learn about and particpate in discussions and activities related to the Kīngitanga and the Māori culture in general.
As in previous years a range of activities were held, such as key guest presentations, a Business Expo, workshops, a rousing Zumba session, entertainment, waiata and haka, stalls, food galore and much more, all designed to engage, excite, entertain and inform the people who attended.
It was a glorious day and you could feel the content and happy spirit which emanated amongst the masses who filled every corner of the University.
