Te Kōwhao

Kotahi te kōwhao o te ngira e kuhuna ai te miro mā,
te miro pango me te miro whero
There is but one eye of the needle through which the white thread,
the black thread and the red thread traverse

This Waikato proverb highlights the principles of partnership and cohesiveness that are crucial to the achievement of a collective goal, and to this end, we offer this web-based resource – to promote opportunities for staff and students of the University of Waikato to familiarise with Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori, and Tikanga Māori.

Nau mai haere mai koutou katoa.

Through this website, you can link into the schedule of activites and downloadable resources for Cultural Hour. You can also access information on the Kanohi ki te Kanohi Staff Professional Development and Induction programme, and also the wide variety of introductory papers offered by the University in the areas of Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga, and the Treaty of Waitangi.

Also, we have prepared resources to assist with learning the University Pao (song), as well as an overview of Tikanga Tainui (Tainui protocols) relating to Te Kohinga Mārama – the University’s marae.

We are hopeful that this resource will assist with your personal and professional development, in line with the University’s Charter commitment to Tainui, to reo and tikanga Māori, and to the Treaty of Waitangi.

Kia kaha kia maia kia manawanui!!

Tēnā koutou katoa.
