Research into effectiveness of programmes for curriculum-based learning experiences outside the classroom
Researchers: Judy Moreland, Clive McGee, Louise Milne, Ariana Donaghy & Thelma Miller
Project Dates: 2004 - 2005
The research project commissioned by the Ministry of Education.
The research team investigated the impacts of learning experiences
outside the classroom (LEOTC) upon students and their learning.
The broad context of the research was the provision for learning experiences outside the classroom (LEOTC) by Ministry of Education funding of over 60 sites throughout New Zealand.
The specific purposes were to investigate whether LEOTC at some of these sites improved student learning. If so, to identify characteristics and conditions that contributed to learning.
In addition, impacts upon long-term achievement were considered.
Gaps in research evidence were identified, and suggestions were made to enhance the effectiveness of LEOTC.
