Welcome to the Centre for Global Studies in Education (CGSE)

Established in 2012, CGSE is part of the Wilf Malcolm Institute of Educational Research in the Division of Education (WMIER) and is the first Centre of its type in New Zealand.

CGSE has a broad mandate covering research, scholarship, publications, conferences, seminars and support of postgraduate teaching in global studies. It is a multi-disciplinary Centre which provides national and international leadership in various areas, such as:

  •          education policy and governance
  •          global citizenship and education
  •          global youth studies
  •          new media and popular cultures
  •          the politics of social identities
  •          gender, class and racial inequalities
  •          the political economy of knowledge production
  •          philosophy of Education
  •          sustainability and development
  •          the ‘glocal’ teacher
  •          poverty and social justice
  •          interculturalism & dialogue
  •          the internationalization of education
  •          mobilities in education
  •          critical literacies and globalisation
  •          pedagogies and globalisation
  •          indigenous philosophies and methodologies
  •          global partnerships

CGSE’s experts are experienced and available to conduct national and international research, consultation and evaluation programmes for public and private organisations, government departments, non-government organisations (NGOs) and multinational corporations. We are available to engage in research activities across various disciplines within New Zealand and internationally including PhD supervisions.
