About Waikato University

From modest beginnings on what was largely farmland, the University of Waikato has grown to a student population of about 13,000 of whom more than 4800 complete a qualification annually. Today the University employs 2000 academic and support staff, making a significant contribution to the local and national economy.

We are committed to delivering a world-class education and research portfolio, providing a full and dynamic university experience, distinctive in character, and pursuing strong international links to advance knowledge.

Since our earliest days we have worked closely with iwi, particularly Tainui, to make the University accessible to Maori students and to foster an environment of success. We are proud of our evolution into a truly New Zealand institution, supporting our country's nation-building policies and reflecting our nation's identity.
