June Dams : Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA)
Originally from Belgium, soprano June Dams has lived in New Zealand for 16 years. Currently, she is completing a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree. June holds a Master of Music in Voice Performance and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Theatre Studies and Composition (First Class Honours, University of Waikato). In 2013 she completed a Vocal Apprenticeship Program at the Astoria Music Festival (Oregon, USA). She is a recipient of a University of Waikato Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship (2006-2017), winner of the University of Waikato Aria and the Waikato Young Performer of the Year Award (2009). Operatic roles include Carlotta: The Phantom of the Opera (The Amici Trust & New Plymouth Operatic Society) La Ciesca: Gianni Schicchi (Astoria Music Festival); Carmen: Carmen, Laurette: Le Docteur Miracle, Mary: Mary Muller the secret Suffragette by David Griffiths, Zita: Gianni Schicchi, Narrator: 3 Franks by Griffiths (University of Waikato); Clarina: La Cambiale di Matrimonio, Maurya: Riders to the Sea, Lauretta: Gianni Schicchi (Opera Factory). June has most recently played the lead role of the diva Carlotta Giudicelli in The Phantom of the Opera at The Civic Theatre in Auckland.
