Waka ama
Turanga comes to Waikato from Nga Taiatea Wharekura in Hamilton where he was a prefect. He has been highly competitive with Waka Ama since 2005 and since then has competed at national and international level with outstanding success. In 2009 he sailed a traditional double-hulled sailing canoe from Samoa to Tonga on a two-week voyage, and is currently sailing the Pacific as part of a group of sailing canoes participating in a major ocean voyage. Turanga has also spent many years as a Rangatahi youth leader and recently began coaching local school waka ama teams. He now has his sights set firmly on the 2012 World Champs being held in Canada.
