Dr John Gallagher Concert Chamber
340 seats, 289 in front of stage
The Dr John Gallagher Concert Chamber is the largest of the Academy’s four main venues. Its high ceiling, attractive wall panels and wooden floors are designed specifically for acoustic chamber music and it has established a reputation nationally and internationally as one of the most intimate and acoustically satisfying concert halls in New Zealand. It is a regular venue for concerts by Chamber Music New Zealand, OPUS Orchestra and staff and students from the University of Waikato’s Music Conservatorium, and has hosted solo concerts by some of the world’s leading pianists, including Nikolai Demidenko, Martin Roscoe and Alexander Melnikov. As a theatre venue it has housed performances by groups as diverse as the Naked Samoans, Indian Ink Theatre Company and Capital E Children’s Theatre, and it is particularly suited as a keynote speaker venue for small to medium sized conferences.
