Coastal Marine Field Station Facilities

The Marine Station sits on the edge of Tauranga Harbour. It is just a few minutes from Tauranga CBD, and within a few hours by boat from the beautiful Tuhua (Mayor Island) Marine Reserve.

Within a year of its opening in December 2011, an unprecedented growth in research demand prompted the Marine Station to triple in size, creating a major centre of marine research excellence in the Bay of Plenty region. Specialised equipment is available including:

  • Boats
  • Diving equipment
  • Sampling equipment
  • Microscopy
  • Aquariums
  • Histology
  • Multibeam
  • Sub bottom profiler.
