Wallace Corporation University of Waikato Blues
Awarding excellence in sport, creative and performing arts
The Wallace Corporation University of Waikato Blues (Blues) are held in October each year, and is one of the University of Waikato’s strongest traditions, dating back to 1971. With the tradition of the “cultural” blue joining the sporting blue in 1990.
The Blues celebrate the commitment and achievements of students and acknowledge their contribution to the University of Waikato.
The awards also recognise students and non-students who play a valuable role in University sport and the creative and performing arts scene, either through coaching or administrating.
The "Blue" is a prestigious award for excellence in sport or creative and performing arts. Blues Awards recognise national excellence through to world champions. It is something that students are proud to receive and can be used in job applications and resumes to show commitment and dedication.
Students who gain a Sporting Blue and represent their sport at a national level are then considered by U Leisure for nomination towards the New Zealand Sporting Blue, this event is managed by University Sport New Zealand.
